HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
I made some foreign friends online to help me learn English when I was in university. They would sometimes ask me questions about the Korean language. And I, a native Korean speaker, found myself unable to respond to either. Since then, I've been interested in teaching Korean to non-native speakers.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
I worked in a government office after graduating from university. Back then, working there was a 'job' in every sense of the word. I wanted to escape the treadmill and do something I enjoy. "If you do what you love, you will never have to work a day in your life." This quote encouraged me to fulfill my long-held ambition of becoming a Korean language teacher.
But why Singapore? Singapore was the country that I traveled to when I was going through a rough patch in the past, and the trip gave me a lot of energy. This was where I wanted to pursue my new career.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
In my classes, I use what students are interested in or familiar with. When I watch a K-drama or a K-show, I still try to find video clips that I can use in class (it's almost an occupational disease! haha). I sometimes use Singlish or Chinese that I learned to make it easier for students to understand. I enjoy seeing my students' wide eyes, and I strive to make that moment as much as possible.
WHAT DO YOU WANT STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS FEELING?
I want my students to leave my class with a lot of exclamation marks instead of question marks. I want a class to be filled with laughter rather than stress, and with confidence rather than worry.
WHAT IS YOUR INTEREST OTHER THAN TEACHING KOREAN?
I enjoy reading nonfiction books as well as the most recent study on Korean language education. I also enjoy drawing and watching dramas in my free time.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
I worked in the Singapore's hotel industry for about 5 years and was close to many local and foreign colleagues at that time. In particular, many Singaporean locals were interested in the Korean Language and we frequently organized gatherings so that I can share more about the language with them. During this process, I discovered parts of the Korean Language that I do not fully understand even as a Korean speaker. That was when it sparked my interest to learn how to teach the Korean language and culture to foreigners through formal education.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
After living in Singapore for 5-6 years, I remembered and missed my days in Singapore - the memories with my co-workers and friends. Furthermore, I met my husband who is a Singaporean and thus I decided to settle down in Singapore.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
One of the most important elements of the class is to make the Korean Language comfortable for the students in class. To make the students feel comfortable, it is important to build a rapport with them. This will form a comfortable learning environment for the students and they will naturally be more interested in learning the language. I will also be able to understand their thoughts and needs better and can adjust my teaching style and materials accordingly to suit the learning style of the students or class.
WHAT DO YOU WANT STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS FEELING?
I hope it will make them more interested in learning the Korean language and culture.
WHAT IS YOUR INTEREST OTHER THAN TEACHING KOREAN?
I usually like outdoor activities such as biking and hiking. I also enjoy going to the gym to workout.

My classes stand out due to my ability to communicate effectively with local students, often using Singlish to add fun and ease of understanding. My dual experience in Korean and Singaporean cultures allows me to bridge cultural gaps and enhance learning experiences.

I aim for my students to leave each class feeling as if they've been transported to Korea, having had an authentic conversation with a local. It's important to me that they leave with a sense of happiness and achievement, akin to having a delightful catch-up with a Korean friend.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy listening to K-pop, exercising at the gym, and cooking Korean dishes. These hobbies reflect my commitment to a lifestyle that celebrates Korean culture in all its facets.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
While I moved to Singapore and settled down here, I communicated with local friends and learned English from them. I also taught them a few Korean words. Then I thought it would be worthwhile to study professional Korean teaching and pass on my knowledge to more international friends. As such, I got a professional education with a certificate and a degree to become a Korean teacher.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
Because of my husband's job, I relocated to Singapore and have been here ever since. In the meantime, I made some wonderful Singaporean friends and noticed that they had a great interest in the Korean language and culture. That's when I decided to be a Korean teacher to arouse their interest in Korea and their passion for learning the Korean language.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
As I have lived in Korea for a long time and currently live in Singapore, I have a strong grasp of both cultures and am aware of the differences between the two. Not only that, I am an approachable person. Students will feel at ease in class and think of me as a kind neighbour who can always answer any questions that they may have.
WHAT DO YOU WANT STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS FEELING?
I would be delighted if my students considered my classes as fun and worthwhile experiences that they would proudly recommend to their friends.

I enjoy K-dramas, and I'm also curious about K-fashion. I enjoy exploring good restaurants in Singapore as well.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
I’ve spent several years in four countries — Korea, Australia, Malaysia, and now Singapore. While living abroad, I met many people who were interested in Korean culture and language. As a senior cabin crew, I sometimes shared simple phrases or stories when people asked about Korea.
I enjoyed those moments and realized I liked helping people understand Korean things. That feeling slowly led me to become a Korean teacher.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
In 2013, I saw a girl studying Korean with a textbook on the MRT while I was going to the city from the airport. It was a small moment, but it left a strong impression on me.
I had lived in a few different countries, but it was the first time I saw a foreigner studying Korean. That made me realize how strong the interest was.
A few years later, when I decided to move to Singapore, I also started thinking about changing my career. So, I began preparing to become a Korean teacher.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
I think grammar, reading, and writing are all important, but I focus more on speaking. I help students speak more naturally and feel comfortable using Korean.
n 2025, one of my students won 1st place in a Korean speech contest hosted by the Korean Embassy in Singapore. It was a proud moment for both of us, and I’m happiest when students express themselves with more confidence.
WHAT DO YOU WANT STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS FEELING?
I hope students feel more confident after class. It’s okay to make mistakes — trying to speak is what matters. Using Korean in real life is more important than just memorizing. If they think, “I can say this now,” that’s the best part for me.
WHAT IS YOUR INTEREST OTHER THAN TEACHING KOREAN?
I watch a lot of Korean dramas and variety shows. I also enjoy idol survival programs and know quite a bit about K-pop idols — not just BTS. It became a habit while living abroad. Thanks to that, I can talk more easily with students and younger relatives.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
While learning a foreign language, I faced numerous challenges and made many mistakes. On the other hand, I was curious about the challenges that foreigners face when studying Korean. I also wanted to understand the differences between the foreign language I was learning and the Korean language. Realising that I needed specialised knowledge to know this, I went to graduate school and I have been teaching Korean ever since.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
I have taught Korean to Thai, Malaysian, Japanese, and international students in Korea. Teaching students who are learning Korean for different purposes has given me an opportunity to develop myself as a teacher. I also met a number of students, whose positive and enthusiastic energy had a significant influence on me. Singapore is a country I have never visited. However, here at ONLYOU, I would like to get another opportunity to develop myself as a teacher by interacting with Singaporean students.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
I understand what students struggle with when learning Korean. No one can speak and understand a foreign language fluently from the start. Students are not native, so there is no need to be embarrassed when they make a mistake. I do my best to provide as many opportunities for students to use Korean as possible. For instance, i continue to expose students to the Korean language in several ways as possible, often through Korean dramas and songs that are relevant to their interests.
WHAT DO YOU WANT STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS FEELING?
Above all, I want my students to enjoy my classes while also believing that it is worthwhile for them to invest their time to my lessons. I also hope that my lessons will help students learn what they want to learn.
WHAT IS YOUR INTEREST OTHER THAN TEACHING KOREAN?
I value spending time with my family, so I try to do so at least once a week. I also spend time for myself to relax by listening to music or reading a book.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
During my study of Korean Language and Literature, I was attracted to the linguistic aspect of Korean, but I was unsure where best to apply my knowledge. This changed in my final year of university when I discovered that Korean Education was a promising field in the Department. I didn’t know then that the study of the Korean language would become so widespread, but I know now that I am glad to be a Korean teacher.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
Why not? 🙂 I’ve always considered Singapore to be a good place for travel, work or study. Living in Seoul, I’ve heard and read lots of lovely things about the country. Thanks to ONLYOU Korean Language School, I have a chance to teach students in Singapore remotely, and I look forward to building a connection between our two countries.

I offer a range of engaging cultural context alongside precise study of the language at all levels. At the same time, I strive to create the safest and most inspiring atmosphere for my students to satisfy their curiosity. HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
I had an opportunity to teach Korean and Korean culture while volunteering as an interpreter in Indonesia. In my class, I witnessed students' passion for learning the Korean language and culture, and that's when I decided to become a Korean teacher. However, I didn't think that I was prepared to be a Korean teacher. I enrolled in a Korean language training course to professionally train myself and acquire the certificate.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
I traveled to Singapore on vacation When I was teaching Korean at the University of Vietnam. Singapore has always been a good memory for me, like Singapore's clear air, clean streets and kind people. In the meantime, I saw the job opening of the ONLYOU Korean Language School and applied immediately.
I have taught students from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds, including Indonesians, Vietnamese, East Timorese, and Bangladeshis. However, the desire to learn Korean and the initiative to do so were the same. I'm also convinced that Singaporeans will be as enthusiastic about studying Korean! As a result, I decided to teach Singaporeans in Korean.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
I can see myself from the perspective of students. I would recall how I used to feel when studying foreign languages as a student, and pay more attention when I conduct my classes. For instance, I listen to my students attentively, try not to speak too fast, and encourage them to have confidence. also prepare for easy-to-understand classes and create a comfortable and friendly classroom environment for students to actively engage in the class.
WHAT DO YOU WANT STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS FEELING?
I strive to make each class lively and interesting for the students. I'm hoping that students will enjoy the class and will be able to say at the end of it, "Today's class was also fun."

HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
When I was in university, I was working in a guesthouse where there were a lot of international guests and staff members I had chances to interact with. I got a lot of questions regarding Korean language from them, but I had trouble answering them even though I was a native Korean speaker. Since then, I have been intrigued by how to teach Korean to foreigners in a fun and easy way. 10 years from then, I am now a professional full-time Korean language teacher with 7+ years of experience.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
I have traveled a lot since I started teaching Korean, as it gave me a lot of opportunities to work abroad. As an English and Chinese speaker (albeit not-native level), Singapore is a wonderful country for me to teach Korean and interact with my students. Also, I like the fact that Singapore is a country that embraces diverse cultures.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
First, I always encourage my students to speak more than I do in class. My focus is on communicating, so I try to create a safe place where my students make mistakes, laugh, interact with each other and grow together. HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
My initial background was in IT, but I had an opportunity to teach Computer Studies and assist in teaching Korean Language studies at a middle school in Mongolia during my last year of university. After that experience, I became interested in becoming a Korean Teacher.
After getting my certification, I started teaching Korean at a university, then at a Korean academy, and currently I am a Korean instructor at a civic center. These experiences made me want to become a better Korean teacher, so I am currently majoring in Korean Language and Education in graduate school.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
I've met students from over 20 countries so far and most of my students are from Southeast Asia. However, I have not had the opportunity to teach any students from Singapore. After taking a trip to Singapore last year and meeting many interesting people, I was made aware that there are many students who want to learn about Korea. I think that teaching students from Singapore is a great chance for me to continue my passion while also expanding my own knowledge about Singapore and the unique culture of the country. When I saw this job offer, I couldn't help but apply. I’m already excited and really looking forward to meeting Singaporean learners.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
I focus on helping students learn Korean language basics including pronunciation and grammar. By offering diverse methods of study from book work to online activities students learn to speak Korean naturally for effective communication.
Also in my classes, my students don't just learn Korean, they get to know about various aspects of Korean culture.
Since I am currently in Korea, learners will also learn contemporary Korean expressions used locally.
WHAT DO YOU WANT STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS FEELING?
I hope that they feel confident in their Korean language skills and more interested in Korean language and culture. I also want students to find my classes useful and worth the time investment that they make when committing to our lessons.
WHAT IS YOUR INTEREST OTHER THAN TEACHING KOREAN?
I love visiting international restaurants and making food from other countries. Most recently I enjoyed a meal at a Russian restaurant, and I tried to make Chinese malatang and Vietnamese Bún Chả. What makes this more interesting is that I learn about restaurants and recipes not just following along on YouTube, but from my students. I also want to try making Singaporean food in the future.

I worked on a 'Hangeul Campaign' project at my previous job in Korea. Through the project, I met a lot of people who were interested in Korean culture and language. I wanted to help them learn Korean.

I moved to Singapore with my family in 2017. I wanted to start doing what I had been dreaming about, which was to help people learn Korean. I was able to become a Korean teacher at ONLYOU Korean school as I had a certificate of teaching Korean. Currently, I continue my study at graduate school to learn more about Korean language education and to develop my teaching skills.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
I believe that having a positive relationship with students is crucial. I do my best to understand what students want and to build a good rapport with them during class. I always make an effort to have ample opportunities for them to speak Korean because many of them do not have many opportunities to do so outside of class.
WHAT DO YOU WANT STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS FEELING?
I hope my class is fun and engaging. I believe that too much tension in class would make the learning process extremely difficult. I hope that students will be able to learn Korean in a more relaxed and enjoyable environment.
WHAT IS YOUR INTEREST OTHER THAN TEACHING KOREAN?
One is tennis, and another thing is writing a thesis. I'm currently working on the thesis for my graduate program, so I pay a lot of attention to the topics related to the thesis. My thesis is on how students can use mobile devices to practice Korean more effectively and comfortably.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO KOREAN LANGUAGE TEACHING?
When I started living abroad ten years ago, I noticed that many people were interested in the Korean culture and our language. As I met more foreigners, I found it intriguing as a native Korean to help them learn about Korea and began to study teaching the Korean language.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A KOREAN TEACHER IN SINGAPORE?
After living in Hong Kong for six years, I moved to Singapore in 2015 with my family, as my husband found a new job in Singapore. My family enjoys living in Singapore and we consider this to be our home for a very long time. Given our plans to stay here, I wanted to find a job for myself and found myself enjoying teaching Korean, sharing Korean culture and meeting students who want to know more about Korea.
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS UNIQUE?
I try to teach my students not just the Korean language but various aspects of the Korean culture. I introduce them to the experiences I had growing up in Korea and try to get to know them well during my classes. I consider verbal practice to be extremely important and encourage my students to speak out loud themselves as much as possible during my classes.
WHAT DO YOU WANT STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS FEELING?
I strive to provide a welcoming and friendly environment in my classroom and hope that the weekly classes are something they all look forward to. I find that an enthusiastic attitude towards classes also creates the most effective results. I always try to be approachable and someone that is easy to communicate with and ask questions to.
